Description
Restorative & Sound Healing class
Join us for this delicious sequence of gentle relaxed poses for deep opening the back, shoulders, neck and hips, nourishing breath practices and a sprinkle of a little basic anatomy. This is a floor work sequence of extended restorative poses, of slow mindful movement shifting poses on props. Each class is a heavenly somatic journey through body and breath. Our weekly class opens with an introduction of breath-based awareness tools, then we progress to a slow n gentle restorative program that will support release and ease, and finish with a longer final resting pose layered with cascading sound healing tones for deeper grounding and expanding into a sense of spaciousness
Through supportive supine practices on yoga props, we’ll explore how well-being is not just a top down/brain to body game, but a process we can initiate from the bottom up/body to brain. Experience the influence of the relaxation response through your entire body, heart and mind. Dr. Herbert Benson, a Harvard Medical School doctor and founder of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine, discovered the relaxation response in the 1960s. The relaxation response is a physical state of deep relaxation that can help people counteract the body’s fight-or-flight response to stress. When people practice the relaxation response, their bodies release chemicals that slow their breathing and heart rate, which can help bring healthy blood to the brain and other organs. This can help reduce blood pressure, muscle tension, and other symptoms of stress.
This is a practice of cultivation and returning to our fullness, also teaches us how to receive. The grounding; complete, full breathing; and quietness of restorative yoga help us elicit the relaxation response, a neurological response that tells us we are safe, pulls us out of “flight or fight” mode and initiates the body’s self-healing process.
